Postal vote High Court directions hearing today
The directions hearing for the application to the High Court to stop the Government’s voluntary postal vote on marriage equality will take place this afternoon at 4:30pm.
“I remain firm in my belief that the Government is exceeding its powers by attempting to conduct a postal vote, doing so without authority to spend the funds, and misusing the Australian Bureau of Statistics,” Mr Wilkie said.
“I look forward to the full bench of the High Court considering the matter on 5 and 6 September.”
The three applicants are Mr Wilkie, Ms Marlowe and PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). They are being represented by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre.
