Launceston’s Emerging Artists Present Brand New Contemporary Dance

Posted on

This Saturday 22nd July at 3pm a group of budding young Northern Tasmanian dance and performance artists will present a showcase of self devised solo and group dance and performance works at The Annexe Theatre (Rehearsal Room) in Inveresk.

This showcase invites the general public to see brand new contemporary dance works-in-progress and support the next generation of young, local creatives.

Over the last two weeks, 10 young people between 13 and 30 have taken part in the fifth iteration of the Stompin Youth Choreographic Project, run by Launceston based youth dance company Stompin.

The project invited any young person between the ages of 13 and 30 to take part in a two-week choreographic intensive with nationally and internationally recognised dance artist Liesel Zink.

The Stompin Youth Choreographic Project has been developed as an opportunity for local aspiring dance artists and creative young people to extend themselves beyond formal dance training and have direct contact and practice with choreographic concepts and experiences and the opportunity to develop their own choreographic voice and movement style.

Stompin creates an environment in which young people grow, as individuals and as citizens, through their connection with dance. Unique to Australia, Stompin’s performance culture unites non-professional dancers with professional artists to create and present signature works in ordinary and extraordinary places.
Stompin thanks the University of Tasmania, School of Creative Arts for the generous in-kind use of studio space at The Annexe Theatre for this project.
