Major art donation for TMAG

Posted on

The collection of works at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) will be enriched thanks to a private donation of significant Australian artworks.

On behalf of the Government, I would like to thank Anna and Richard Green for their generous donation to the state collection which will now be available for all visitors to this Tasmanian icon to enjoy.

The collection of 23 works comprises Australian art from the late 20th century and early 21st century, and features several notable artists not currently featured in the TMAG collection such as William Robinson, Andrew Sibley, Euan Mcleod, John Gould and Jock Clutterbuck.

The works will bring a greater national context to TMAG’s collection of Tasmanian artworks from the colonial period to the present day.

It’s another marker in TMAG’s strategic goal to strengthen and develop its collections of contemporary art, and will help to reaffirm its standing as a cultural and tourism drawcard for the state.

An exhibition of the donated works is planned for March 2018.
