Tasdance appoints new General Manager
After an extensive national selection process, Tasdance today announced the appointment of Alison Copley as General Manager.
Tasdance is Tasmania’s premier professional contemporary dance company. It plays a vital cultural role in Tasmania as well as being an integral part of the national dance sector providing an important professional development hub for dancers and choreographers. As one of only two regionally-based contemporary dance companies in Australia, Tasdance balances the presentation of main-stage performances with an extensive range of community engagement and education programs.
“‘This is a company that takes seriously its role as an Arts Leader both in Tasmania and nationally and its responsibility to nurture the next generation of dancers by providing opportunities to work with some of the best national and international choreographers, by developing new works and by touring.” said Tasdance Chair Professor Peter Matthews.
“Tasdance is embarking on an intrepid future with Felicity Bott at the helm as Artistic Director/CEO evidenced by her 2017 performance program that includes an international partnership with Greek dance company Jukstapoz, choreography for a river in collaboration with MONA and festival performances across the State at Ten Days on the Island and Junction Festival. We welcome Alison and her breadth of arts management experience to support Felicity and the team of talented dancers here at Tasdance.” Professor Matthews
Alison, originally from Adelaide, has spent the last 13 years working in the regional arts sector across Australia: from the northern city of Darwin where she worked at Top End Arts; to Far North Queensland where she was employed as the CEO of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF); to more recent times in the South as the CEO of Tasmanian Regional Arts.
“I am thrilled to join the dynamic team at Tasdance and to support Felicity Bott’s bold vision for this important contemporary dance company. As an audience member at the recent stunning performance of Fragile Matter I was in awe of the skilled dancers and the quality of the show … I had to pinch myself that I get to work with such a remarkable contemporary dance company.” said Alison Copley.
Alison commences on 18th April 2017.
