Boys in Blue
I recently spoke to Kieron Lafferty who will be in Tasmania later this week as part of The Official Blue Brothers Revue. This production is sanctioned and blessed by Dan Ackroyd himself and by Judith Belushi Pisano, widow of John Belushi.
Based on ‘The Blue Brothers’ hit movie, it is the tale of two ex-convicts out on a mission from God to reclaim the orphanage in which they were raised, now in the clutches of the tax office. Subsequently, they form a Blues band and perform a concert to raise the orphanage debt.
It’s hard to believe its 30 years since the Blue Brother’s movie, the time is right for fans to revisit the brothers in The Official ‘Blue Brothers Revue’ written and produced by Judith Belushi Pisano and Dan Akroyd. Kieron Lafferty takes on the role of Elwood while Wayne Catania plays Jake.
Kieron tells me that he is not new to Tasmania. He was working in New Zealand once, when a friend of his got in touch, informing him he was now a chef at Wrest Point Casino and encouraging Kieron to pay a visit, which Kieron did, becoming familiar with Hobart, which he describes as ‘beautiful’ and hanging out with friends, including taking in Mt Wellington. Kieron would really love to see much more of Tassie and this time around he will get the chance to spend a few days prior to the concert exploring Launceston.
In preparation for his role as Elwood and to get familiar with ‘the Blue Brothers’ Kieron went to Blue Brothers boot camp, officiated by Dan and Judith. At camp the films were viewed. Observations made and notes taken.
A man of many talents Kieron believes that it’s important to develop a few modes of expression because when one creative outlet dries up utlilising another can give a fresh approach to artistic expression and he cites Jodie Mitchell who, when she had writers block would paint.
You can see Kieron and the other Blues Brother in ‘The Blues Brother’s Revue’ at the Launceston Country Club Casino on Friday 24th February.
