The 2016 Tasmanian eco Film Festival, now in its second year, has continued it’s precedent of showcasing some of the worlds most exciting experts in their field.

Dr Sylvia Earle is one such guest, and is a major asset for the young, but highly popular apolitical, film festival.

Dr Earle is a celebrated American Marine Biologist, National Geographic Oceanographer (in residence since 1998), author and first Time Magazine Hero For The Planet recipient. She has been called “Her Deepness” by the New Yorker and the New York Times and “a Living Legend” by the Library of Congress.

“If the ocean were a woman, I believe it would be Dr. Sylvia Earle!” Kyia Clayton, Director of TeFF Said. “She has spent the majority of her life in the ocean, exploring and studying. She speaks with a calm and grace that reflects the ocean’s magnificence.”

Dr Earle will be the leading speaker for the Eco Ocean Panel Discussion Event being held at The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) in Hobart on Saturday, Nov 19th.

Facilitated by Emmy Award winning foreign correspondent and ABC commentator Sara James, Dr Earle and an accompanying panel of marine and ocean experts from the UK, Queensland & Hobart, will aim to inspire and educate the audience about the vital importance of the health of our oceans.

“People ask: Why should I care about the ocean? Because the ocean is the cornerstone of earth’s life support system, it shapes climate and weather. It’s what makes life possible for us..”
said Sylvia Earle.

Held over four days from the 16 – 20 of November, this year’s festival promises to be even more engaging and diverse than the highly successful inaugural festival last year.

The TeFF is an eco-themed, apolitical film festival offering a combination of high-art eco films and VIP events held at various venues across Hobart.
