Things can only get better with Howard Jones in town

Posted on

The name Jones might seemingly be one of the most frequently heard in the English language yet Howard Jones is anything but run of the mill. Howard, with such songs as ‘Things can only get better’ and ‘No one is to blame’ is noted as the defining figure of 80s synth pop and he brings his uniqueness to Australia and Tasmania in November.

I chatted to Howard recently about his upcoming visit which he is much looking forward to. Australia he says is an amazing environment, he loves the people and their outgoing friendliness and relaxed nature.

Howard says music was his (and his four brothers) only ambition and from the early of 7 Howard began learning the piano and knew then he was always going to pursue a musical career and did not deviate from that ambition.

Even though there is an agony in song writing Howard says you must believe in yourself that your ideas and choices are good ones and the perfectionist he is. When I ask if he is ever surprised by one of his lesser songs resonating with audiences he tells me he would not send a song out unless he believed it was a good piece.

Howard tells me he has been vegetarian for 40 years now, a decision he made in line with a belief to live as peacefully and non-violently a lifestyle as possible.

Howard Jones performs with Kim Wilde at the Wrest Point Entertainment Centre 10 November 2016.
