Please join us in celebrating the extraordinary Rite of Spring—and in farewelling Séan Kelly from his role as Kelly’s Garden curator after seven years and twenty-five projects!

An excerpt from the performance/ installation ‘Fire’ will be presented at 6:00pm.

Rite of Spring is an original interpretation of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring by Second Echo Ensemble.

It is the biggest and boldest production that the company has produced to date, described in their publicity as: “A revolutionary work for a revolutionary time”.

Salamanca Arts Centre’s support for multi-disciplinary art is evidenced in this project as the final Kelly’s Garden Curated Project for 2016. Included as part of the inaugural Salamanca Moves dance festival, Rite of Spring’s installation in Kelly’s Garden (as one of multiple sites) is the remnant of two weeks’ of performance.

Designed by Hanna Parsinnen and Roz Wren, with lighting by Nick Higgins based on Jason James’ original design, the Garden is transformed into the site of a Bacchanalian feast where primitive rituals celebrate the advent of spring and fertility – with a symbolic excess of wine, food and sexuality.

PERFORMANCE DATES: 20-22, 27-29 September

CLOSING EVENT: Thursday, 13 October @ 5:30pm
VENUE: Kelly’s Garden, Salamanca Arts Centre
