Camilleri crafting a career of faithfulness
When I spoke to him Joe Camilleri was getting ready to set off to promote ‘Faithful Satellite’ the title of the new and 20th Black Sorrows album and like a faithful satellite Joe and The Black Sorrows are going to be orbiting their way around Australia on a massive 50 day tour that will take in Hobart and Cygnet, places Joe loves for their ‘beautiful greenness’.
Joe and the Sorrows are anything but green, they are well seasoned performers that bring a professional outfit and uniqueness to every performance. On the subject of outfits the polished performer that is Joe, tells me, he once turned his hand to being a tailor before he crafted a career in music.
In Tassie Joe will be doing a number of gigs and in the case of the Hobart and Cygnet gigs, day events, he says he quite enjoys the day concerts too, even after a shabby night, there might be need of a Panadol but the it’s all go!
Joe says that he is always impressed by how his music is received. Ever humble, Joe recalls a taxi ride where the driver had the song ‘Chained to the wheel’ on the radio telling him that it was about the Taxi driver’s life. Joe ever humble didn’t tell the driver it was him singing but it reminded him of how music has the ability to resonate and be particularly personal with every listener.
You can see Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows at the following venues:
