Stanley … in The Light Between Oceans

Posted on

The Light Between Oceans is in Australian cinemas nationally on November 3 … and it includes the North-West town of Stanley …

Based on the best-selling novel by Australian author M.L Stedman and starring Michael Fassbender (X-Men, Steve Jobs & Macbeth), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Jason Bourne) and Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener), as well as Australian icons Jack Thompson, Bryan Brown and Garry McDonald, The Light Between Oceans tells the story – On a remote island in the years following WWI, a couple rescue a baby from an adrift rowboat and decide to raise the child as their own, unaware of the devastating consequences of their decision.

While the majority of filming took place in New Zealand, the Tasmanian town of Stanley, played an important role, standing in for the fictitious coastal town of Partageuse. Filmed in late 2014, the town of Stanley played host to the Hollywood production for just over week, with its vintage-looking main street, unique hillside views and wharf area, it was a perfect location for much of the exteriors needed for the film.
