Devonport Regional Gallery: 3D PRINTING COMES TO DEVONPORT

Devonport Regional Gallery and 3D printing education provider Modfab have partnered to deliver a range of 3D printing workshops to students and teachers in October, coinciding with the Australian Design Centre touring exhibition, Shapeshifters: 3D Printing the Future.
Shapeshifters opens at Devonport Regional Gallery on Friday 30 September, 6 pm and features the 3D printed work of Australian visual artists and design practitioners, including Ryan Pennings, Louis Pratt and Michael Eden.
Modfab’s 3 hour workshops and full day immersion course are on offer to students across the north and north west of Tasmania between 18 – 20 October, along with a one day professional learning workshop for Tasmanian teachers on Friday 21 October. All workshops explore the 3D printing design cycle, with participants creating their own 3D printed object.
Expressions of interest are now open to primary and secondary schools who wish to take up the opportunity to host Modfab on Tuesday 18 October for the 3D Printing Immersion day for 20 students and one teacher. The full day workshop explores the 3D printing design cycle with students creating an original product and seeing them brought to life.
“3D printing and design provides a great opportunity for schools to unleash the tremendous potential of their students to become the artists, engineers and designers of the future.” – Heike Roberts, Director of Education Projects, Modfab
Modfab’s one day professional learning workshop at Devonport Regional Gallery is open to teachers across the state who wish to develop hand-on skills in 3D printing and basic computer-aided design (CAD) software. The course is designed to get teachers up to speed with this exciting new technology, and provides teachers with the confidence to operate, maintain and troubleshoot a generic 3D printer.
Shapeshifters is on display at Devonport Regional Gallery from 1 October to 13 November.
