Grassroots platform Tuggs Now Add Honey to Tasmania

Posted on

An innovative social media platform is bringing a film with a valuable social message to Tassie screens.

TRED (Tasmania Recovery from Eating Disorders) will hold a special screening of the new Australian feature, Now Add Honey in celebration of the film’s uplifting portrayal of body image for women and girls. The funds raised through the screening will go directly to support young Tasmanian’s recovering from eating disorders.

Now Add Honey will be brought to Tasmania via TUGG Australia, a web-platform that invites individuals and organisations to host special movie events in local theatres. The film will screen at John Kelly’s State Theatre in Hobart.

TRED provides support to those seeking freedom from Eating Disorders in Tasmania, working to break down barriers many face in finding treatment in the state. TRED’s CEO Jo Cook reached out to the film makers when she heard of the film, “We are very keen to host this movie in Hobart for TRED, the State Cinema in Hobart would be perfect venue. Can you let me know how we can advance this.” The film makers helped make it happen and now Tasmanians will get to see the film – and raise money for a great cause.

Recognising the importance of exposing young Tasmanians to positive representations of body image on screen, TRED was inspired by the film’s refreshing portrayal of real women with real bodies, and encoraged that the film was partnering with the National body The Butterfly Foundation. Claire Vickery, Founder of the Butterfly Foundation is a strong advocate for the film: “I love the film because it’s an hilarious comedy that deals with important themes including body image, self-esteem, surviving dysfunctional families and embracing the perfectly imperfect, ” she said of Butterfly’s partnership with the film,” she said.

With the help of TUGG Australia, TRED will share the film at a special screening at Hobart’s State theatre on November 16 at 6pm.

Created by the award-winning filmmaking team behind instant classics Upper Middle Bogan, Little Lunch and The Librarians Now Add Honey tells the story of Honey Halloway (Lucy Fry), a shining Hollywood teen star who returns home to Australia for a short trip and finds her life crumbling into chaos when her mother (Portia de Rossi) is suddenly checked into rehab.

Honey is forced to stay with her aunt Caroline (Robyn Butler) in the suburbs of Melbourne and her once normal existence is turned upside down when she discovers her family is not so normal at all.

The film is an uplifting, laugh-out-loud smart-with heart comedy about women and girls. The film stars Hamish Blake, Portia De Rossi, Robyn Butler, Lucy Fry, Lucy Durack, Angus Sampson, Erik Thomson, Phillippa Coulthard and Lucinda Armstrong Hall.

Now Add Honey will be released in cinemas on November 5 in Australia.
