The Little Gallery Project Space
24 OCTOBER — 22 NOVEMBER 2015
OPENING Friday 23 October, 6pm
Devonport Regional Gallery presents Biophilia by Tasmanian artist Samantha Dennis.
Samantha Dennis’ exhibition Biophilia consists of a series of brooches and jewellery objects constructed from a combination of materials and found objects. Dennis’ innovative sculptural approach to the jewellery-making process generates an installation that combines lost and hidden worlds. These works mimic the ecosystems that exist on a minute scale in our environment and are based on an investigation into organic and natural concepts.
The Little Gallery was established in late 2009 in honour of Jean Thomas who set up the first public gallery on the north-west coast in 1966, and named it The Little Gallery. Jean Thomas’ vision for the Gallery was as a centre for community arts and activities that promoted the work of emerging and established Tasmanian artists alongside national and international artists.
Since opening the gallery up as a project space, several emerging and early career artists have showcased their work and presented floor talks. Gallery staff provide guidance and assistance to artists in the preparation and installation of their work.
