Posted on

Allegri Ensemble, directed by Andrew Bainbridge, is proud to present A Garland for the Queen, a concert of choral part-songs in honour of Queen Elizabeth, on Wednesday 9 September 2015 at 6 pm in the Grand Ballroom of Government House, Hobart.

This concert is also a celebration of Her Majesty becoming the longest reigning British monarch, on the evening of 9 September 2015 (UK time).

With a Floral and Choral theme, the program includes Five Flower Songs and Choral Dances from ‘Gloriana’ by Benjamin Britten, and a selection of madrigals from ‘The Triumphs of Oriana’, published in 1601 as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth I.

Also included is Robert Pearsall’s sumptuous eight-part madrigal Lay a Garland.

Central to the program is a selection of part-songs from ‘A Garland for the Queen’, a collection commissioned by the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1952 as a tribute to the young Queen Elizabeth II in the weeks leading up to her coronation, featuring the work of ten contemporary British poets set by ten composers.

Free admission to A Garland for the Queen is by ticket only which can be obtained by clicking the link on the Government House website:
