For the second year, Cradle Mountain Canyons and Cradle Mountain Hotel, supported by Events Tasmania, are running a competition that aims to spark the imagination of adventurous Tasmanian film makers.

Participants in the One Month in Tasmania Adventure Film Competition are asked to submit a maximum five minute film that features a Tasmanian adventure. The catch is, the films need to be entirely shot and produced in a one month time frame – between October 16 and November 16 2015.

“The idea is to showcase the incredible amount of adventure that can be had on this cracker of an island,” said Anthony O’Hern, owner of Cradle Mountain Canyons and the event’s organiser. “Last year we had people out mountain biking, rock climbing, white water kayaking and rafting, dirt biking, bushwalking and canyoning. It’s great to watch all the films and think that all this adventure happened in just one month.”

Over $3000 worth of prizes will entice entries in the competition.

This year the event has been expanded. Shortlisted films will screen at Cradle Mountain Hotel on November 21 as part of the Cradle Mountain Film Fest which this year will also feature a screening of Mountainfilm on Tour – one of the world’s premier adventure film festivals from Telluride, Colorado.

Mountainfilm attracts leading documentary filmmakers, artists, photographers, conservationists, mountaineers, scientists, journalists and explorers from around the world to engage in the festival’s tag line of “celebrating indomitable spirit.”

“This fantastic expansion of the event will allow us to screen some of the best adventure films produced in the world in the past 12 months, alongside short films that showcase Tassie adventure at its best,” Mr O’Hern said.

“We got very lucky with Mountainfilm. We got in touch with them, just as they were trying to find some locations in the southern hemisphere to screen their films. Events Tasmania came on board, and we managed to make it happen.”

The event is part of a push by Cradle Mountain Canyons and Cradle Mountain Hotel to get visitors into the North West outside of peak season. “Dark Mofo has demonstrated that people will travel outside of peak time if you give them a good reason,” Mr O’Hern said.

Cradle Mountain Canyons and Cradle Mountain Hotel are offering a package that includes accommodation and a canyoning tour at a special rate for the weekend. The package can be booked at www.cradlemountainhotel.com.au
