Public apology proves there’s more to China story

Posted on

Taxpayers deserve a full explanation of Adam Brooks’ behaviour on the recent trade mission to China.

Labor Leader Bryan Green said reports of the trip are very concerning.

“Adam Brooks must explain what led to him missing the start of an official function with the Chinese President and subsequently apologising to the Premier,” Mr Green said.

“You wouldn’t have a Parliamentary Secretary publicly apologising to the Premier if there was a legitimate reason for being late.

“There’s clearly a lot more to this story and Mr Brooks needs to come clean.

“Tasmania’s burgeoning relationship with China is too important to be put in jeopardy by bad behaviour.

“Tasmania’s relationship with China has been built over decades and cannot be undermined by embarrassing behaviour.

“This incident also must rub salt into the wound for State Growth Minister Matthew Groom who missed out on the China trip because he previously described trade missions as ‘junkets'”

“Perhaps the behaviour of Mr Brooks is the reason why we have heard very little from Will Hodgman about the benefits of the trip.”
