ONE of the first hurdles of the current cable car proposal looks set to be cleared.
The Wellington Park Management Trust yesterday released its report into a proposal to extend the development zone on the pinnacle of Mt Wellington by 1.1ha. It indicated it was in favour of the changes.
Cable car proponent Adrian Bold sought the extension, which would allow a function centre and landing area, to be built east of, and under, the existing observation deck and visitor centre.
The trust said 551 submissions had been received during the public comment period.
“After considering the representations received, the trust’s preliminary opinion is that it believes the proposed amendment to the WPMP [Wellington Park Management Plan] is consistent with the vision, principles and objectives of the WPMP,” the report said.
The trust will now review its opinion after the Tasmanian Planning Commission releases its own report before making a final decision to present to the Governor for approval.
