Hobart to experience a more creative world 10 minutes at a time!

Posted on

Short+Sweet Hobart OPENING Sept 30 will include something for everyone – comedy, drama, romance and thrillers – and all in just 10 minutes!

Short + Sweet Hobart 2014 began in May with writing workshops with Australia’s world famous 10 minute play writer Alex Broun and then the offered director and acting workshops.

Three of the plays in the S+S festival are from the writing workshop. “Tumbling Down” by Ingrid Ganley finds that over a game of Jenga a few home truths come out, director Julie Waddington** said “she’s delighted to be directing this local piece. The opportunity to further develop the script with the writer is an experience not often offered in Tasmania.”

“The family that prays together stays together”, says Thomas, the father in “A Good Catholic Family”. Written and directed by James McDonald we see if faith and prayer unite the family and protect it from the past when new priest, Anthony, returns home to celebrate.

The third play to come from the Alex Broun workshop is “Placement” by Louise Love directed by Informal, which sends the message… “You are not the only one. You need to take a number.”

Plays presented in the festival will include the best 10-minute plays from around the world as well as scripts by some of Hobart’s top playwrights, brought to life by Hobart’s top actors and directors.

With 10 out of 30 plays being Tasmanian new works this festival is the best single showcase of our writers, performers and directors.
