RECORD NUMBER OF WORLDWIDE SHORT FILM ENTRIES FOR BOFA
Short film entrants from a record 16 different countries worldwide have found their way down to Tassie chasing a place in this year’s Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival (BOFA) short film competition.
The BOFA Devil Short Film Competition has received entrants from the USA, Italy, Mexico, Serbia, Brazil, Germany, France, Japan, Greece, India, Belgium, Tanzania, China, Netherlands, and Russia, as well as almost 100 entries from Australia alone.
Given the vast geographic spread of short film entrants to this year’s BOFA Devil Short Film Competition, it’s clear that BOFA is being recognised more and more as a crucial event for filmmakers from around the globe.
Festival Director, Owen Tilbury, is thrilled with the competition’s popularity. “It’s been utterly humbling to receive short films of such imagination and talent from 16 different countries around the world. When we started this film festival just five years ago, we had our sights set on it becoming an internationally renowned film festival and putting Tasmania on the cultural map. It’s amazing to think that our visions are starting to become a reality,” Tilbury said.
The total number of short film entrants this year has more than doubled the amount of entrants in last year’s BOFA Devil Short Film Competition with this year’s competition officially closing for entries on Friday August 1.
Judging is underway from August 2 until end September and the You Be The Short Film Judge initiative of BOFA 2014 is still open for applications until the end of August. In a first for Australian Film Festivals, this crowd sourcing feature of BOFA allows film buffs and film experts from all over Australia to apply to be the online judges of the BOFA Devil Short Film Competition. Judges pay $104 for their right to be a judge and in return get $104 worth of festival tickets of their choice, a 6 months online subscription to FilmInk, an entry in a draw for $1,000, entry to exclusive screen industry events at BOFA, Judges laurels. and, of course the enjoyment of watching top flight short films,
Judges on the panel are sent the exclusive online links to view the short film entries and will be asked to rate them on two criteria: quality of storytelling and quality of filmmaking.
