Andrew Wilkie: More live animal export cruelty
The report today (Monday) that Australian sheep are again being mistreated, this time in Jordan and Kuwait, is as predictable as it is shocking.
It’s yet another reminder that the cruelty is continuing because the Australian Government doesn’t care that the live animal export trade is systemically cruel, not in Australia’s economic best interest and opposed by the majority in the community.
It’s also proof that the current supply chain regulations simply do not work because in this instance the tags are simply being torn from the animals’ ears to try and conceal their country of origin.
When parliament resumes I will be reintroducing a Private Member’s Bill to ban the trade completely.
