Power struggle: low bids behind collapse of Aurora Energy sale
The Tasmanian Government is defending its handling of the sale of the state-owned company Aurora Energy amid Opposition claims it has been botched.
The Energy Minister Bryan Green has confirmed the Government has pulled its retail power business Aurora Energy off the market because it was unable to attract a “fair price”.
The Government was hoping two interstate retailers would buy Aurora’s customer list to give Tasmanians a choice of power provider.
Mr Green has told State Parliament he is disappointed that bids for the state-owned company were not high enough.
The Minister said Aurora Energy would continue to sell power to Tasmanians in the medium term.
