Greens reveal Abbott’s secret cuts

Posted on

The Australian Greens have today released new analysis showing at least $14 billion worth of secret cuts will be made by Tony Abbott.

“In his budget reply Mr Abbott said he wouldn’t commit to supporting any new budget measures from the 2013 federal budget,” Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

“Analysis by the Greens reveals this adds up to more than $14 billion worth of new spending now facing Tony Abbott’s axe.

“It’s time Mr Abbott stopped the sloganeering and came clean with Australian voters by revealing exactly what he is planning to cut.

“We are halfway through the election and Mr Abbott still hasn’t released any of his costings from the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO). What is he trying to hide?

“In comparison, the Greens have submitted more than 40 election promises under the charter of Budget Honesty to the PBO for costings during the election period.

“As it looks increasingly likely the Coalition will win the election, the only way to prevent these cuts is to stop Tony Abbott getting total control of both houses of parliament.

“Whether it’s protecting the ABC or ensuring schools funding isn’t axed – having a strong Greens voice in the Senate is the only way voters can stop the Coalition slashing vital services and programs.”
