Libs’ plan for logging, mining, grazing and shooting in national parks
The Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim MP today condemned the Tasmanian Liberal Party for refusing to rule out allowing mining, logging, grazing and shooting in Tasmania’s national parks.
Greens Leader Nick McKim said that the Liberal Party, having today raised concerns about proposed environmental safeguards for existing national parks, have revealed plans to wreak havoc in Tasmania’s national parks.
“The cat is out of the bag now that the Tasmanian Liberals, like their Queensland colleagues, are planning to wreak environmental havoc in Tasmania’s national parks,” Mr McKim said.
“We have seen Liberal Party governments on the mainland promoting profiteering from the destruction of national parks, and it’s clear that Tasmania is next on their list.”
“After tearing up their policy to place up to 150,000 hectares of forests in National Parks, the Liberal Party have now gone a step further and are looking to rip into existing protected areas.”
“Mr Hodgman needs to be honest with Tasmanians and tell them all about the logging, hunting, mining and grazing he has in mind for Tasmania’s national parks if he ever becomes Premier.”
“The message to Liberal voters who believe in the importance of nature conservation is that Will Hodgman does not care one scrap about the environment.”
“We have had several years of tough negotiations over the future of our forests in Tasmania, and the community is ready to move on from the days of conflict and division.”
“The Liberals want to turn back the clock, and that would be a terrible tragedy for our state.”
