State Liberals in unfortunate state of Tarkine-denial
It is unfortunate that the state Liberals are running to the defence of big miners without first seeking to understand the conservation significance of the area.
Talk of 44% being in reserves shows that they don’t understand that most of the proposed mines proposed are within reserves, many created under a Liberal Party government.
“The Stanley River and Mt Lindsay mine proposals sit within the Meredith Ranges Regional Reserve crated in the RFA under Prime Minister Howard and Premier Rundle,” said Campaign Coordinator, Scott Jordan.
“In fact the Tarkine National Heritage nomination was moved onto the priority assessment list with unanimous support the Senate in the last months of the Howard Government”.
“Comments about ‘so-called Tarkine’ demonstrate a head-in-the-sand mentality at odds with their federal counterparts.
Did John Howard get it wrong?”
Earlier this year Adam Brookes publicly ruled out visiting the Tarkine with conservation groups to view the areas of contention.
