Expanding Parliament would address MP workload issues
The Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim said that today’s (Bacon to lighten Giddings load) portfolio reallocation clearly showed why the House of Assembly needed to be restored to 35 members before the next election.
“The portfolio reallocation was obviously partly about managing ministerial workloads, which only underscores the urgent need to increase the talent pool of MPs in the Parliament,” Mr McKim said.
“For Tasmania’s sake, we need more ministers in the Cabinet, and to achieve that we need more Members in the House of Assembly.”
“A 35 Member House would improve decision making, ensure a better functioning committee system, and would provide a deeper talent pool from which to select Ministers.”
“All three parties signed an agreement before the last election to restore the House to 35 members in time for the next state election, and the Greens are holding fast to that agreement.”
