Volunteers the driving force behind Meals on Wheels
As part of Tasmania’s Seniors Week, Senator Catryna Bilyk joined the team of hardworking volunteers at Kingborough Meals on Wheels. While there she donated a new heater and kettle for the Meals on Wheels Office.
Kingborough Meals on Wheels delivers hundreds of meals a week to people who through sickness, age and/or a disability cannot reasonably get a meal for themselves.
“Kingborough Meals on Wheels have a very dedicated group of volunteers who do a magnificent job providing meals to hundreds of people in the Kingborough Community a week,” said Senator Bilyk.
“Volunteers are the heart of the Meals on Wheels organisation. However, the service needs the help of more volunteers to keep up with current demand, and to expand into the future”
Kingborough Meals on Wheels is a volunteer based organisation, with drivers delivering meals to people between Snug and Taroona. This service allows people to remain living with dignity and independence in their own homes, and in their community.
Volunteering with Meals on Wheels can be for as little as a few hours every month. Volunteers for the Kingborough Meals on Wheels stem from every walk of life, professionals, stay at home parents, retirees, and youth.
