Brewfest hops back to basics

Posted on

The Tasmanian Micro Brewing industry is growing in size and reputation, however many locals aren’t aware of what this industry has to offer. The Tasmanian Micro Brew Fest on 29 October will promote products from Tasmania’s micro brewery industry by raising awareness and to develop an appreciation of these boutique beers and ciders to the wider community.

The Tasmanian Micro Brew Fest is organised by Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management students from Drysdale South Campus on behalf of the Tasmanian Association of Micro Brewing Inc (TAMI). The reason behind the first Tasmanian Micro Brew Fest last year was to go back to basics like the early Beerfest. The Beerfest was started by a group of Drysdale Advanced Diploma students in 2006 and is now managed independently.

Returning back to basics means that this event will focus on the Tasmanian Microbrewed beers and cider and have a more intimate feel. The products will be from some of Tasmania’s finest microbreweries such as Two Metre Tall, Seven Sheds, Van Dieman, Iron House, Taverner’s and Moo Brew. Cool Wine will be showcasing boutique products made from outside Tasmania.

This year’s event will be introducing Captain Blighs cider which is named after Captain William Bligh who planted Australia’s first apples trees in 1788, they have built a small cider brewery in the old Tasmanian Brewery Co Building in Hobart. Captain Blighs cider will be using apples sourced exclusively from the Huon and Channel region.

The Micro Brew Fest will be held on Saturday 29 October 2011, 12 – 6pm at the Wharf’s Apron (located next to the Princes Wharf Shed One). Entry into this unique event is $8.00 at the door, which entitles guests to five samples of some of Tasmania’s finest brews. There will also be food and non-alcoholic drinks available to purchase at the event.
