The Australian Institute of Architects’ is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the nation’s most prestigious design awards in style – today confirming the event will be staged at
Tasmania’s fabulous Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) on Thursday 3 November 2011.

Designed by award-winning architect Nonda Katsalidis of Melbourne practice Fender Katsalidis, MONA has been described as a “subversive adult Disneyland” – with the multi-million dollar, mostly underground building displaying Australia’s largest private collection of inspiring and thought-provoking art from around the world.

Tickets go on sale today for the special function – which will feature a range of surprise ‘acts’ on the night, and complementary activities on days following. The evening includes opening cocktails, access to several spaces within MONA, a sit-down dinner and awards presentation, followed by an after-party.

launched in 1981, the National Architecture Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements and excellence in architecture. A record 940-plus entries were received this year across the awards’ 12 major categories, with 149 projects winning State and Territory awards – making them eligible for consideration for National Awards.

Awards guests will also be able to access and explore unique Tasmanian architecture during their stay, while enjoying the magnificent scenery from Hobart to Bruny Island – pending levels of interest.
