Festival to celebrate the power of belonging

Posted on

Come and celebrate our diversity, community participation, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone at the 2011 Peace Festival.

The Peace Festival is a free event and will be held on Saturday the 24th of September at Mawson Place on the Hobart Waterfront. The Festival has been organised by the Migrant Resource Centre, Southern Tasmania (Inc.) in collaboration with community members, Hobart City Council, Clarence City
Council, Kingborough Council, and Glenorchy City Council.

Over the years, the Peace Festival has answered a significant community need. Importantly, it aims to promote and sustain an optimistic and inclusive society. The Festival also aims to provide a focus point by which to demonstrate to new migrants and our culturally diverse communities that they are welcome in Hobart and Tasmania, and that their contribution to our economy and society is valued.

The Festival runs from 12 noon to 4.00 pm, and will offer a range of free activities including music and performance that showcases cultural diversity within Southern Tasmania. There will be a cultural craft display, henna designs, and other activities for those wanting a fun afternoon in the beautiful surrounds of the Hobart Waterfront. There will also be food stalls available to purchase traditional food and refreshments. So come and enjoy the performances, and celebrate what a wonderful, peaceful place we live in, where everyone belongs.
