Anti Development Whingeing
Alderman Philip Cocker today described the latest criticism of the University of Tasmania’s Marine Institute building as anti development whingeing.
Alderman Cocker said, ‘This project is a magnificent project for Hobart and the siting at the Princes Wharf No.2 shed is entirely appropriate. Having it next to the CSIRO on the waterfront is exactly the right place for this development.
Furthermore, having three hundred of the world’s best scientists located on the Hobart waterfront in a world class building is a fantastic boost to the city and local business.
‘I cannot understand the continued whingeing over the use of the Princes Wharf site. It has sat under utilised and ugly for years and years and suddenly when a fantastic development is occurring which will benefit the city we are told it should have been used for something else.
‘To further add to the benefits, it is being funded by the Federal Government and it will create many jobs during construction as well.’
Alderman Cocker said, ‘This development will be a major asset to the City of Hobart and of massive long term benefit to the City of Hobart and I welcome it”.
