Ulverstone Primary School Excels in Trivia Challenge
A group of year three students from Ulverstone Primary School has won the year State Final of the Epilepsy Australia Trivia Challenge, which was held on Sunday July 17th in Launceston. Students Malachi White, Ella Thompson, Georgia Cleaver and Jake Dare were part of the successful team to take the lead in the Grade three challenge.
Trivia Challenge helps to raise awareness of epilepsy in schools through a general knowledge quiz aligned with questions relating to epilepsy. Students are provided with information, and are asked to research epilepsy and seizure first aid to enable them to answer the questions.
Reachelle Beasley CEO said “Raising awareness of epilepsy is important, but even more important is enabling our children to feel confident to help someone who is having a seizure. Trivia Challenge provides a medium for us to do this with our younger members of the community”
Ulverstone Primary School has had previous success with Trivia challenge as they won (three way tie) last year’s Grade four final. “The students always enjoy the challenge and we’re very happy with our success in recent years,” said Teacher and Trivia coordinator Pam Deverell.
Students from year 3 to 6 are invited to take part in Trivia Challenge. Approximately 2500 students participated this year.
Southern School, Corpus Christi Catholic School also celebrated its first place for the second year in a row, taking our year six challenge. The team, Brady Stacey, David Wright, Harry Crosby and Abhi Balreddgari are looking forward to competing at the end of the year in the National Final.
Other results were, South Hobart Primary School (Grade 4), and Lansdowne Primary School (Grade 5), Corpus Christi Catholic School (Grade 6).
