Alderman Briscoe’s Survey a first
Alderman Jeff Briscoe, candidate for Lord Mayor said his resident survey appears to have been the first survey (at least in living memory) by any Councilor in Hobart’s history.
Hundreds have responded to his city wide survey. Preliminary results indicate that Hobart citizens are overwhelmingly against the current roll out of water meters and support a walkway around Battery Point.
“So in my view, its time we stopped talking about this walkway and implement it” “And funding for it should come from the Commonwealth” “ The rollout of water meters in Hobart should be stopped.”
“For over a month, after work, for about two hours a night and at the weekend I have now walked almost every residential street in every suburb of the city delivering this survey. There has been wind, rain, snow and it has been at times very cold”. I have a few more streets in Mt Nelson and Taroona to deliver to in the next few days”. “But I am getting fit and losing weight so that is a great positive”.
“But we live in a beautiful city – whether it is be it Battery Point, Lenah Valley or New Town”.
“I have been overwhelmed by the numbers of residents that responded to the survey” said Alderman Briscoe, “indeed many have expressed to me that this was the first time they had ever had a councilor give them an opportunity to express an opinion on city matters.” I have had a return rate of 10% by mail and email which I am told is an excellent response.
“I like to thank the hundreds of residents that responded to the survey” “I could not provide a free facility for residents to post the survey back so I am humbled by residents who took the time to spend money with stamps and post it to me”
“I am sure the postman delivering this mail every day to my home could not work out what was happening”
“Whatever the result for the Mayor’s position, I will continue to make sure that the resident’s concerns are listened to and acted upon.”
