Dear friends,

There is never a dull moment in politics, and this week proves it!

From what we thought was going to be a minor re-shuffle in Cabinet following the Rumney elections, the resignation of David Bartlett from Cabinet has resulted in some major changes.

On behalf of the Greens MPs I am proud to update you on the following:

I will be taking on the Ministerial portfolio responsibility of Education. This is considered a key senior portfolio area, and it is one which the Greens have a long and proud history of advocating and supporting. I will remain Minister for Corrections and Consumer Protection, and as Minister for Sustainable Transport.

In an exciting development Paul ‘Basil’ O’Halloran MP will also be appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to assist me in the Education portfolio! With Basil’s professional expertise in the Education field, I am confident we will prove a strong and effective team in delivering Greens’ education policies. Basil will still retain Greens’ Shadow portfolios.

I am also delighted that Cassy O’Connor will now become Greens Minister for Climate Change, and also Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, additional to her current ministerial portfolios of Human Services, and Community Development. Cassy as Minister for Climate Change will continue to work for better energy efficiency outcomes.

We Greens have demonstrated our commitment to good governance and stability. With tough budget times ahead, we are determined to roll up our sleeves and keeping working hard to deliver Green outcomes for Tasmanians both through our Ministerial portfolios and on the floor of the Parliament.

Thanks for your continued support. Without the hard work and commitment of Green people like you, the process of ‘Greening up Government’ would not be possible.

Go Greens!
