NW hospital bullying inquiry
THE North-West Area Health Service is investigating allegations of bullying at the North-West Regional Hospital, chief executive Jane Holden confirmed yesterday.
Mersey Community Hospital Support Group chairman Steve Martin alleged yesterday the NWRH had lost three specialists in the fields of medicine and anaesthesia because of bullying and intimidation.
Ms Holden said that while she would not describe the actions in question as “bullying”, they showed a lack of respect in how staff spoke with one another and the health service was taking the matter seriously.
“There have been some issues raised around … well, bullying’s not quite the right term, but it’s not miles away from the mark,” she said.
“It’s about some of the behaviours in a particular department.
“We have proactively dealt with that and have sought advice external to the NWAHS.”
Ms Holden said that the investigation was an ongoing process that needed to be resolved.
