Maate, comment: You may have noticed that the drainage lines from the Great Divide plateau at Toowoomba down to the Lockyer Valley lacked significant riparian vegetation. The rainforests and riparian communities that grow around gullies, streams, creeks and rivers capture the flotsam and jetsam that get caught in deluges. Vegetation catches the detritus and sequentially dams and slows floodwaters. The “inland tsunami” could not have happened if riparian communities were intact.
