Lilydale water: The Buck stops … where?

Posted on

Lilydale District Progress Association Inc. is angry.

Angry at being fobbed up and tied twisted in bureaucratic newspeak as the water quality to its community continues to deteriorate.

This particular issue arose when trees were clearfelled in the catchment area for Lilydale’s water last year.

A brief summation of the issue:

Who? Lilydale District Progress Association vs goverment bureaucracy.

What? Government won’t own up to flaws in planning as it applies to forestry and catchment areas. We are nearly a year into exploring who is responsible for water quality and quantity.

When? From November 2009 till present this particular example.

Where? In Lilydale … and reproduced around the state.

Why? Because this problem is endemic in our state and continues to cloud issues and cause frustration.

To see why we are so frustrated at the bureaucratic newspeak, download Minister Bryan Green’s response to the Lilydale District Progress Assocation which concludes:

As you can see, the management of Tasmania’s water resources is a multi-dimensiontal task that cuts across a number of Ministerial portfolios and Government agencies. lf you require any further information or have any questions arising as a result of my letter, please contact Xx XXX XXXXXX from DPIPWE.

I thank you for your interest in this matter and hope that this information is of assistance to the members of the Progress Association and, ultimately the wider Lilydale community.

Yours sincerely,

Bryan Green MP,
MINISTER FRO PRIMARY INDUSTRIES AND WATER
