Labor targets Greens

Posted on

THE Labor Government has begun an advertising blitz targeting the Tasmanian Greens.

A new Labor Party television commercial warns voters that the Greens cannot be trusted.

The long-awaited assault on the Greens by the government follows recent opinion polls showing that Labor voters were deserting the party for the Greens.

The Greens vote across Tasmania appears to be exceeding 20 per cent, giving the party the chance of wining a seat in all five electorates.

It highlights five Greens policies that the Labor Party claims Greens’
leader Nick McKim “won’t be telling you about.”

The TV commercial claims Greens’ policies include:

• Giving the state’s worst criminals the right to vote No surprise there … on TT: HERE;

• Draining Lake Pedder, which supplies one third of the state’s electricity;

• A forest policy that slashes over 300 jobs;

• Public service cuts; and

• Putting the state back in debt.

The Greens response:

GREENS RESPONSE TO ALP SMEAR
Nick McKim MP
Greens Leader

mps.tas.greens.org.au
The Tasmanian Greens today responded to the ALP’s latest attack ads by releasing their own positive ad based on the negative campaigning of both the ALP and Liberals, which will run from tonight.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that the ALP is clearly panicked by the Greens’ policies to reduce Labor’s spiralling cost of living, and that Labor’s ads are based on distortions and misrepresentations.

Mr McKim pointed out that it is Premier David Bartlett that tried to cut 800 public sector jobs last year, and who said earlier this week that he would ‘make no apologies’ if public sector health workers lose their jobs as a result of his actions.

Clearly the Greens’ focus on reducing the pressure on household budgets hit so hard by Labor has annoyed Mr Bartlett so much that he has discarded the last shreds of his integrity and resorted to smear.

Tasmanians are sick of negative campaigning, and the Greens will continue to work hard on positive policies that will reduce Labor’s cost of living pressures, fix up Tasmania’s health and education systems, and look after the places that make Tassie special.
