The Lilydale motions
Please invite everyone who is concerned about forestry impacts on water and other issues, to the Launceston City Council meeting on Monday Feb 15 at 1 pm, as I will be bringing three motions to the table which will need all the community support possible to succeed.
The motion subjects are as follows and they can be found online at http://www.launceston.tas.gov.au/lcc/?c=32
11.3 Engaging political parties on the topic of increasing local government discretion over forestry issues.
11.4 Objecting to Private Timber Reserves in our water catchment protection areas
11.5 Strengthening Launceston’s Planning Scheme to address the issue of forestry / water and other impacts on residents and communities.
Please contact me if you would like more information at jeremy.ball@launceston.tas.gov.au and find the full motions and supporting arguments attached.
The Lilydale / Mountain Rd forestry issue has revealed the true breakdown of the Forest Practices System, in that you can log a town’s water catchment without ever needing to quantify the impact on that town’s water supply and this is the community’s chance to persuade Launceston City Council to take a stronger stand.
Please come along on Monday and ‘be the change you want to see’ (to borrow a phrase).
