Whales? What whales?

Posted on

A PROTEST vessel has been sunk while chasing Japanese whalers, Australian aircraft have been hired to spy on the protesters and Environment Minister Peter Garrett is to perform in a concert about pirates.

Senator Stephen Parry said today’s news headlines suggested Mr Garrett had forgotten about the plight of whales in the Southern Ocean.

“Mr Garrett made much of opposing whaling when he was in opposition, but now in Government we have an Environment Minister who would rather sing than address serious issues pertaining to his portfolio.

“No wonder the anti-whaling protesters are cross with Mr Garrett – he has become a part-time Minister who no longer wants to know about whales.

“Those Australians who voted for Labor on the back of its then environment spokesman’s promises of strong action against whaling must now feel betrayed.’’
