NEW PREVENTATIVE HEALTHCARE ALLIANCE IS MUCH-NEEDED

The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed the launch of an alliance to advocate for better chronic disease preventative health outcomes in Tasmania.
Greens Health spokesperson Cassy O’Connor MP said Tasmania has traditionally failed to adequately fund preventative health programs and the state desperately needs more focus on preventative health as every dollar spent on prevention saves many more dollars in future health costs.
“Today’s launch of a preventative healthcare alliance of key organisations including the Australian Health Promotion Association, the Tasmanian Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance, and TasCOSS, is much-needed and most welcome,” said Ms O’Connor.
“Tasmania has failed to adequately fund preventative healthcare programs and our health system is now dealing with the results of that failure to fund improvements in our overall health.”
“For every dollar spent on preventative healthcare we save between $10 and $20 in subsequent hospital and health costs. The benefits are clear and the Greens are calling on the Tasmanian Government to give serious consideration to the recommendations made by the new Tasmanian preventative healthcare alliance,” said Ms O’Connor.
