State of the Environment Report

Posted on

The report is another example of the Labor Government dragging its feet, while the Liberals are showing leadership and vision for the future.

One of the key findings of the 2008 report is the lack of a strategic, whole of government approach to environmental policies and reporting by the Labor Government over the past 11 years.

In its 2003 State of Environment Report, the RPDC (now the Tasmanian Planning Commission) recommended the government develop a Sustainability Framework.

The government has done nothing to advance this.

In 2008, we announced that a Hodgman Liberal Government would develop such a strategy because we believe there needs to be a more holistic and integrated policy framework from which to attack the major environmental challenges of the future.

That will help address some of the key concerns raised by the Planning Commission in today’s report – concerns that Labor has had 11 years to address, and has failed.
