The Hodgman Liberal Government is using this Trade Mission to strengthen Tasmania’s economic, educational and cultural ties with China.
Tasmania’s Government schools are growing international student enrolments at a higher rate than the Australian national average and the Hodgman Liberal Government wants to keep this trend going.
I’m pleased to announce the Government has taken part in a high-level signing ceremony in Beijing as part of this week’s successful trade and investment mission to China.
Two significant agreements have been signed by TasTAFE reflecting Tasmania’s exceptional education opportunities.
Just like Tasmania, TasTAFE has strong ties with China. International students play an important part in Tasmania’s visitor economy and this trade mission has placed a strong focus on boosting education relationships between Tasmania and China.
Tianjin Modern Vocational Technical College (MVTC) has signed a Sister School Agreement with TasTAFE to further formalise and strengthen the partnership between the two institutions.
TasTAFE provided MVTC with Western Food and Wine training for 24 staff in July and 12 of those will attend Training and Assessment training in Tasmania later this year.
These trained staff will be teaching TasTAFE Certificate IV to students in China starting in 2016.
After completing 2 years of study in China, students will spend one year in Tasmania at TasTAFE to complete an Advanced Diploma of Hospitality with articulation to the University of Tasmanian to complete a degree in business administration.
The second agreement signed will see and Tianjin Youth Professional College and TasTafe develop a Joint TAFE Education Program similar to the agreement with MVTC.
