The lack of firm commitment by the AFL and Premier Will Hodgman to establish an elite football academy in Tasmania falls well short of expectations.
“It is disappointing that the AFL could not be convinced of the need to establish an academy in Tasmania,” Mr Green said.
“We appreciate the great work of the Tasmanian Football Council and Labor MP Madeleine Ogilvie and agree that it is important to be involved in ongoing discussions.
“Given recent comments by AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan that Tasmania deserves to be part of a truly national competition, we need to be developing the strategy now for our own team.
“The establishment of an elite football academy is the logical next step to help develop our local talent.
“Will Hodgman needs to lift his game if Tasmania is to be considered a serious contender to have its own team in the AFL.”
