The Sensis Business Index released today shows that confidence is not only growing under the Tasmanian Liberal Government, it is exceeding the national average.
The confidence of Tasmania’s small and medium sized businesses jumped seven per cent last quarter and is now the third highest in the country.
The Sensis data shows that Tasmanian businesses are positive about their expectations of business conditions over the next quarter under our long-term Plan.
This is great news for Tasmania because when businesses have confidence they invest more, and that investment creates and supports more jobs.
Importantly, the index found that small and medium businesses recognise that we are a Government that’s committed to cutting red and green tape and providing the right environment for businesses to grow.
The report states these businesses, “believe the State Government is interested and helpful, particularly in reducing bureaucratic requirements”.
Tasmania is one of only three states where these businesses have a positive attitude to State Government policies.
Since the election confidence and economic activity are returning to the state, 4,500 jobs have been created and the unemployment rate has fallen to 6.7 per cent. The gap with the national unemployment rate has more than halved.
There is still work to be done, and that’s why we’ve invested $315 million in the Employment Package to help small, medium and larger businesses to employ more Tasmanians.
