The 26TEN Coalition is expanding with the search underway for additional volunteer members and a new Chair who will have an opportunity to help improve adult literacy and numeracy in Tasmania.

The 26TEN Coalition calls on our community to “roll up its sleeves and make a difference” to achieve a vision where all Tasmanians have the literacy and numeracy skills they need for work and life.

Tasmania’s literacy and numeracy rates have been an historic concern. Improving rates for all Tasmanians is a priority of the Hodgman Liberal Government. That’s why we’re investing a record $1.44 billion in education and training, and $100 million in skills.

Every year, we also provide 26TEN Grants for employers, industry groups and community groups of up to $50,000 to help improve the literacy and numeracy skills of working age Tasmanians.

I encourage all who are interested in helping us to improve literacy and numeracy in Tasmania to apply to join the coalition.

The expansion of the Coalition from six to 12 members means it will encompass more sectors, including members from the Community, Legal, Health, Indigenous, Education, Government and other sectors.

Coalition members are committed members of the Tasmanian community who volunteer their time to support 26TEN’s vision and provide leadership in their sector to identify priorities and actions and encourage individual organisations to become members of the 26TEN Network.

Coalition members also contribute through outreach, awareness raising and contribution of ideas between meetings, which occur up to four times a year.

The Coalition is supported by LINC Tasmania who provide secretariat support, with member’s routine travel costs to attend meetings met from the 26TEN budget.
