I was delighted today to join Sensis CEO, John Allan, to launch the Sensis Stepping Up Grants Program.

With matching funding support from the Hodgman Liberal Government, the program will provide eight grants of $10,000 each to Tasmanian businesses that can demonstrate they are ready and able to expand.

The grant will go towards purchasing the tools they need to evolve and grow such as training for staff, software upgrades, or new equipment purchases.

There will be two grants available in each of the following categories:

• customer service;
• innovation and technology;
• start up and emerging business; and
• business growth

The Hodgman Liberal Government recognises the vital part that small business has to play in Tasmania’s future.

Small business is the engine room of the Tasmanian economy, with over 36,000 small businesses operating in Tasmania employing more than 105 000 people or 44 per cent of the workforce.

Business confidence is growing in the state and we are seeing increasing investment, jobs growth and high retail spending.

Applications are now open and will close on Sunday, 4 October 2015. More information on how to apply can be found at www.sensis.com.au
