It has taken four months for the DPP to finally lay charges against Mt Lyell mine owner Vedanta (Vedanta’s Copper Mines of Tasmania) over the tragic deaths of two workers Alistair Lucas and Craig Gleeson who died in December 2013.

This is far from the quick resolution that AWU secretary John Short had called for earlier this year in April after Workplace Standards passed their findings on the deaths to the DPP.

Meanwhile NGO Foil Vedanta is gearing up for a Global Day of Action during Vedanta’s AGM in London on the 3 August … in solidarity with the many communities suffering pollution, illness, oppression, displacement and poverty as a result of Vedanta’s operations.[/i]
