Tasmanian audiences will be treated to world-renowned theatre performers, spellbinding dancers,
talented musicians, and spectacular visual artists this March, when Ten Days presents the Tasmanian
International Arts Festival – formerly known as Ten Days on the Island.
The program will be presented statewide from 5-29 March, giving Tasmanians a chance to explore
different regions of the island state or to simply enjoy high quality entertainment close to home.
Artistic Director David Malacari said the artistic program offered something for everyone, ranging
from enchanting musical performances to an immersive overnight experience at one of Hobart’s
iconic hotels.
“We have put together a program to appeal to our many audiences featuring international acts
Dementia 13, The Cardinals, Rising and an Australian premiere of Hamlet, de Los Andes; alongside an
abundance of creativity and ambition from both national and local artists,” Mr Malacari said.
“Making its Australian debut, South American company Teatro de los Andes, will deliver a unique
reinterpretation of the Shakespeare classic Hamlet in Hamlet de los Andes.
“This highly visual performance sold out in London and is sure to astound audiences when it is
performed exclusively in Tasmania.
“New Zealand company Live Live Cinema will recreate the entire soundtrack, dialogue, sound effects
and music of Francis Ford Coppola’s 1963 film Dementia 13 live on stage as part of the festival
program.
“Actors, musicians and a Foley artist will create every aspect of the audio, while the schlock horror
film is screened above the audience for their viewing pleasure.
“Renowned international dancer, Aakash Odedra, whose work is inspired by traditional Indian dance
styles, will travel from the UK to captivate audiences with his acclaimed show Rising.
“Odedra will perform four solo dances, featuring the work of three of the world’s best
choreographers – Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Russell Maliphant and Akram Khan – with the final dance
choreographed by Odedra himself.
“In contrast, UK company, Stan’s Café, will provoke questioning and self-reflection as they explore
the concept of belief in their production, The Cardinals.
“Another highlight of the festival program is Blue Angel; combining music, installation, video and
sound design to tell the stories of Tasmanian sailors and seafarers.

“Performed in and around Hobart’s Astor Hotel, audiences can select to stay overnight for the full
experience or attend a boutique concert in the evening.”
Mr Malacari said the world-renowned Spiegeltent, presented in association with Strut and Fret,
would also return to Hobart’s waterfront as part of the 2015 Tasmanian International Arts Festival
for 25 days of dazzling entertainment and fun for all ages.
“We are delighted to welcome La Soirée back to Tasmania who, along with Australian company Circa
and their show Beyond, will headline the Spiegeltent program,” he said.
“Beyond is a truly sublime world-class show, with the circus cabaret experience presenting an
unexpected and surreal mix of comedy, music and magical circus tricks that will be equally
mindboggling for both adults and children alike.
“Hobart audiences will have another chance to get their hands on the hottest ticket of 2014 when
the five-star theatrical phenomenon that is La Soirée returns with its jaw-dropping acrobatics,
hilarious comedy, spellbinding circus acts and cheeky cabaret performances.
“Joining 2014 La Soirée favourites to make their Hobart debut will be Bath Boy, Nate Cooper, Asher
Treleaven, Cabaret Decadanse, Captain Frodo and the devilishly delightful English Gents.”
The Spiegeltent season will kick off with a free opening night on Thursday, 5 March, featuring
spectacular entertainment from UK’s Cocoloco, Iain Lang’s Punch and Judy, a sample of highlights
from Beyond and much more.
The free Spiegeltent Outdoor Lounge will also return to the PW1 forecourt this year, showcasing
some of Tasmania’s finest produce to enjoy whilst dining al fresco on the waterfront.
Metro Tasmania will also be making it easier for Tasmanians to get to and from festival events across
the state, offering $2 bus fares in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie upon the presentation of a valid
festival ticket during March.
Ten Days is currently offering a special Multi-Tix offer where show-goers purchasing any three
eligible full priced tickets can receive a 15 per cent discount, subject to availability.
