The TasTAFE Board Chair Kathryn Thomas has stepped down after seven years contributing to the sector.

Ms Thomas has made a significant contribution to TasTAFE and I would like to thank her for her commitment, hard work and dedication.

Ms Thomas has provided expertise and governance to the vocational education and training sector as Director and Interim Chair of the Tasmanian Polytechnic, and as Director of Skills Institute, before taking up her role with TasTAFE.

She brought together the inaugural TasTAFE Board and contributed to a strong culture and commercial market organisation, performance and compliance.

Ms Thomas is stepping down due to her Global Learning role with IBM, which has become increasingly demanding and requires additional overseas travel.

Ms Thomas said: “I believe that TasTAFE is well positioned for the future to achieve its ambition to become a dynamic organisation that can meet the needs of the Tasmanian workforce and drive economic and social growth for the state. I remain fully committed to workforce development and education in Tasmania and would look forward to other opportunities to contribute locally when competing demands on my time make this a realistic option for me.”

TasTAFE Chief Executive Officer Stephen Conway said: “I’d like to thank Kathryn for her expertise, commitment and leadership of the TasTAFE Board and the strong guidance and support she has provided. Kathryn has ably led a Board that understands its responsibilities, has strong expertise and strategic leadership that it exercises in a way that is clearly advantageous to TasTAFE.”

An Interim Chair will soon be appointed, and expressions of interest for the position of chair will be advertised at a later date.
