The new national labour force figures released today show Tasmania’s efforts to kickstart its economy have started to shoot, says Lyons MHR Eric Hutchinson.
Mr Hutchinson said that Tasmania’s latest seasonally adjusted unemployment rates illustrate even better than the national statistics that fulltime employment is on the way up.
The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December dropped by 0.1 per cent to 6.1 per cent compared to November’s 6.2 per cent.
While Tasmania’s unemployment rates remain the highest in the country, the state’s seasonally adjusted figures dropped from 6.9 per cent in November to 6.7 per cent for December, a change of 0.2 per cent.
“These figures highlight that shoots are starting to appear in the plan to kickstart the economy evidenced by the 137 applications for the Entrepreneurial Infrastructure Program which already has $85 million committed from the private sector,’’ he said.
“That is a fantastic endorsement of private sector confidence which is what is needed for the economy to grow.’’
